A future redevelopment of a portion of the Ahuriri shopping precinct may result in eight ground floor retail stores ranging in size from 45m2 -66m2 & six residential apartments situated over two levels & covering nearly 2000m2. The development would be serviced by 16 onsite parking spaces. The site bounded by Nelson Quay, Barry Street & Routledge Street has a prominent location overlooking the Iron Pot.
The large, warehouse-filled area currently known as BAT was the previous 'home' of international company, British American Tobacco.
When the company centralised its operations in Australia last year, the opportunity to secure this substantial area of Ahuriri came up for grabs.
This expansive site, spanning several square kilometres, has now been purchased by
Big Save, who will redevelop it to incorporate a flagship furniture retail store, and as the base of their warehousing, administration and storage operations.
It is Big Save's intention to allow continued public access to the iconic Art Deco Rothmans headquarters, the building known as the 'jewel' of Napier.
